Sales Tax Increment Financing: An Economic Development Tool

Economic development is an important issue in northwest Indiana. As communities and the leaders that represent them search to find the best solutions, it is vital that they explore every option available.

In an effort to expedite that process Operation TEN, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to tax education, will offer local leaders a free two-day seminar to examine Sales Tax Increment Financing as a tool for economic development.

The event will take place on October 18 and 19 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Indiana Welcome Center, I-80/94 and Kennedy Avenue South, Hammond, Ind.

Educators, consultants, developers and state legislators are among those who will share their expertise on the topic. In addition to the expected “how to” portion of the program, participants will be invited to engage in a discussion of the pros and cons of implementing Sales Tax Increment Financing in their communities. Case studies from several states will be presented to further enhance the dialogue.

A pictorial presentation of areas in northwest Indiana that could benefit from this economic development tool will help bring the discussion home.
